Its time to pull on the runners and get training!! The Carlanstown Mini Marathon as part of the Carlanstown Weekend Festival is being held this year on Sunday 3rd July at 1 pm.

This years event is being held to raise much needed funds for both the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre in Drogheda and in memory of Cian McDonnell Lynch.

The mission of the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre is to create a safe and holistic environment.  To preserve the dignity and privacy of the person at all times.  To provide counselling, information, education and psychological support for people affected by cancer and those who care for them, free of charge.

In 2014 the number of client visits to the centre exceeded 7,000  with running costs  of  €300,000 for the year.  A HSE grant of €2,500, a Counselling grant of  €23,500.00  Irish Cancer Society  and Bereavement Counselling grants of €3,200 from Túlsa were the only structured funding granted in 2014.. The shortfall is secured through donations, fundraising events and corporate sponsorship.

Cian was a member of our community and such  a big part of all our lives and brought us all together as a community.Cian's parents would like to donate their share of this charity to Child Vision. They feel that this charity was a great help to them for the short while Cian was in their lives and in our lives..Child Vision is the only place in Ireland totally dedicated to the education and therapy needs of blind and multi-disabled children.Throughout this century of care and learning, thousands of children with sight loss and other profound disabilities have bravely overcome their obstacles and grown up to reach their full potential, guided by our expertise and support. They look after children from all over Ireland ranging in age from birth to 23 yrs. Meeting the individual needs of each child in Child Vision is at the core of what we do. Our staff work to realise the unique potential with each boy and girl no matter how severe the disability.
